INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- The opening night of the 2026 NBA All-Star weekend is in the books. Team Vince, coached by Vince Carter, defeated Team Melo, coached by Carmelo Anthony, in the NBA Rising Star Challenge title game behind a standout performance from VJ Edgecombe. The 76ers star guard was named MVP of the event.

The NBA’s brightest young stars will be on display during the Rising Stars Challenge in the Los Angeles area on Friday, Feb. 13.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — V.J. Edgecombe seems quietly confident he'll be at an NBA All-Star weekend quite soon to play in the main event. Until that day arrives, the Philadelphia rookie celebrated his first trip to this midseason showcase with two game-ending scores and an MVP trophy in the Rising Stars event.

The annual showcase features first and second-year players plus G League stars coached by Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter and Austin Rivers at Intuit Dome in Inglewood.

Edgecombe's performance was a timely reminder of the 20-year-old's value as a scorer in Philadelphia this season.
