An all new tournament-style event debuted Friday night at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and with it breakaway roping for the first time. Torrington got a big blast of national television time thanks to native Shai Schaefer who now lives in Texas where she is a special education teacher. Shai is keeping to her roots for pro competition and will always remember being the winner of the inaugural breakaway night at Fort Worth. | Rodeo Life

One of the special moments of last night's rodeo was when Rafter G Rodeo’s legendary bucking horse Assault took a final career bow after helping Q McWhorter of Petrolia, California, win second in the round with 84 points and earn a spot in the semi-finals. The buckskin has competed at the FWSSR for 19 years in bareback and saddle bronc riding. He was the bareback horse that Richmond Champion won the first $1 million paycheck at The American in 2014.
