A severe thunderstorm produced hail up to 2.5" in diameter and greater than 6" deep in spots around Safford late Saturday evening. This thunderstorm had a supercell structure more typical of the plains and not very often seen in Southeast Arizona. Unfortunately the large hail produced extensive property damage in Safford and likely impacted agricultural interests (crops) in the area as well.
